The old saying goes, “It is better to give than to receive.”
It rings loud and clear during the holiday season, but what about giving nothing but time together and receiving nothing but good memories in return?
What? No gifts to wrap? It would certainly save lots of time, headaches and heartaches when it comes to shopping, wrapping and worrying about whether the recipient would appreciate his gift.
According to a survey conducted by Harris Poll for SunTrust Banks Inc., 69 percent of Americans would eliminate family member gift exchanges if a consensus warranted it. The information, featured on a website called Aleteia.org, also noted that 25 percent of those surveyed said that they would prefer to use funds on activities with families and friends.
It’s interesting to see such survey results in a world where it seems like kids need to have the latest gadgets and toys yesterday, Perhaps people realize the commercialism of the season has nearly swallowed us whole. Sitting around the dinner table and/or the Christmas tree being together, sharing stories and, if need be, just cutting back on the amount of presents lavished on the little ones might seem like a better option.
What do you think? Do you give fewer gifts from Santa to your little ones? Do you give of time with family and friends throughout the season? Share your thoughts in the comment section, and thank you for reading.
