The first day in May. In Northeast PA, it’s absolutely — and FINALLY — beautiful. The sun is shining, and it’s warm enough to break out the shorts and flip-flops!

It’s finally that month that sounds much like ‘N Sync’s front man Justin Timberlake singing, “It’s gonna be me!” or Def Leppard’s lead singer Joe Elliott and group singing “Pour Some Sugar on Me.” Yes, the social media memes mimicking the “May” are in full bloom today — pun intended!

This month also turns a corner for many families. The academic year will be over at the end of this month or, hopefully, in early June. For those who got stuck with one too many snow days, the school year stretches out juuuuust a bit longer. My most sincere condolences.

For many who have children enrolled in dance classes, this time of year means preparation for year-end recitals. The older the dancers seem to get, the larger the amount of costumes, props and accessories that get transported to dress rehearsals and performances!

This year marks my daughter’s 11th year of instruction at her home studio. With it comes nine recital costume changes. Some require quick changes. Remembering a well-rehearsed, 30-second costume change in her first “Nutcracker” performance, we find these things to be a piece of cake! It takes a bit of organization and a lot of quick movement, but it works!

Looking ahead, there are class trips, picnics and plenty of specialty events that my family anticipates. We also look forward to preparing our backyard area for grilling, dining and time around the fire pit. Hopefully my goal to make the backyard a nice summertime oasis will become a reality.

Happy May. Enjoy this crazy-busy, hopefully pleasant time of year!
