Social media serves up many a mommy/parenting meme, from the sentimental to the silly.

While perusing Facebook earlier today, a meme that has stuck with me since my daughter was born surfaced. A favorite, it read, “I never knew how much love my heart could hold until someone called me mommy.” Shortly after my daughter’s birth, a co-worker had given me a small plaque with that quote worded a little differently. It says, “You never know how much love your heart can hold until someone calls you mommy.”

Another one I found in the past year that waxes love for a child — and I’ve grown to love — is, “Labor is the only blind date where you know you will meet the love of your life.”

Very true.

A silly one, if you want to call it that, comes to mind on days of frustration with a teenager in the house. It declares, “Raising a teenager is like trying to nail Jell-O to a tree.” Haha — anyone ever actually tried it? If so, how did it go?

In that same vein, I used a description of parenting in a column I wrote in the newspaper during my first year as a working mom. It said, “Parenting is much like the Peace Corps: It’s the toughest job you’ll ever love.”

How about you, moms and dads? What are your favorite quotes/battle cries/funny words of wisdom that help you through this path of life called parenthood? Feel free to share yours in the blog’s comment section, and thank you for reading.
