I finally began putting away my Christmas decorations on Saturday.
I mentioned in a previous blog that I wait until Jan. 6 to celebrate the 12th day of Christmas, known to many as the Feast of the Epiphany, to take my decor down. I started with the large wreath on our front door, then went to the little trees upstairs — the sports tree in my and my husband's bedroom and the Disney tree in my daughter's room.
What really helps this year is that Amber is eager to help. Over the weekend, she helped pack the ornaments and other items in the plastic containers, then trekked to the attic with me to put them away. My husband takes care of the outdoor decor, and with the wintry weekend weather, those decorations stayed put!
I still have a bit to go, with the goal of putting it all away by Friday. The Christmas tree in the living room is always the last thing to come down.
Everything looks so plain and bleak after Christmas. It takes some getting used to. Sure, I could put the Valentine's Day decorations up, but I think I'm going to wait a day or two until that happens. I won't wait too long, though, because that day will be here before we know it!
