Waking up early after working nightshift (well, second shift) is never easy, especially when it requires getting one child on the bus, another to daycare and a mommy back to work for dayshift.
Let’s face it. These days it seems that life is never easy. It’s always moving, never slowing down. I keep in mind that quote from Matthew Broderick’s famed character Ferris Bueller from the 1986 movie “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”: “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.” Or country singer Trace Adkins’ song “You’re Gonna Miss This” or Kenny Chesney’s “Don’t Blink.” You get the idea.
I won’t even go into the ongoing quest to keep a clean house. I’m resigned to the fact that it might not happen until the kids are graduated and off to college, the military or the workforce. That said, as the rain poured down Monday morning/afternoon Jacob kept busy watching Barney videos. He asked me to sit with him, and I did. We snuggled on the couch for about two hours and watched that purple dinosaur sing and dance.
I’ve seen those videos more times than I care to count. Someone gave them to me when Amber was a toddler. However, these were moments with my little boy, moments that I won’t get back in time and moments that will be gone all too soon.
This brings me to a sweet moment from this morning. I walked in to wake Jacob up to prepare for daycare. He sat up and smiled, reached up and wrapped his little arms around my neck. What better way to start a Tuesday than that?
