An Ashley man could face more than 11 years in state prison and $110,000 in fines after pleading guilty Friday to 2011 drug distribution charges in Wyoming County.

William J. Overfield Jr., 25, of N. Main Street, Ashley, appeared before Judge Russell Shurtleff and accepted responsibility for bringing more than four pounds of marijuana to Meshoppen.

Court records show that a routine traffic stop by Meshoppen Police Chief John Krieg on Aug. 16, 2011, revealed more than a broken windshield violation.

According to a criminal complaint, Krieg said he saw Overfield and a female friend, Bobbie Jo Walker of Springville, enter a parking lot In Meshoppen.

There, he said that once he activated his emergency lights, the driver later identified as Overfield threw something.

It was later identified as marijuana, and Walker told authorities she had been measuring some for a friend whom she called to meet them.

After executing a search warrant, Krieg confiscated the marijuana, assorted pipes, a 9 mm loaded handgun and an envelope with $3,360 inside.

As part of a plea agreement with Wyoming County district attorney Jeff Mitchell, charges of firearms possession without a license and possession of drug paraphernalia are expected to be dropped at the time of sentencing.

On Friday, Overfield appeared with attorney Robert Munley and also pleaded guilty to driving under the influence and possession of a controlled substance on Dec. 9.

For the DUI, he faces a maximum sentence of six months incarceration and a $5,000 fine, and for the December drug possession charge he faces a maximum sentence of one year in prison and a $5,000 fine.

For the August incident, he faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a $100,000 fine.

Overfield is free on $25,000 unsecured bail and will be sentenced at a later date.

Walker pleaded guilty in December to drug possession charges of less than a pound of marijuana and is yet to be sentenced.
