A 37-year-old Tunkhannock man who 11 months ago was found with more than 100 bags of heroin which he was selling from a local motel room was sentenced last Wednesday to 54-120 months in state prison.

Alton Bernard Warren told Wyoming County President Judge Russell Shurtleff, “I’m sorry for everything I’ve done here. I was weak.”

Court documents show that on March 20, 2012, State police at Tunkhannock seized more than 100 bags of heroin when they executed a search warrant for Room 107 of the Skyline Motel on Route 6 just west of Tunkhannock.

Police said they initially arrested Warren after a controlled heroin buy that yielded 25 packets of heroin in his possession, then searched his motel room and found 116 more.

Warren’s attorney, Paul Ackourey admitted Wednesday, “He is no saint,” but in asking the judge for leniency said that Warren was actively involved in A Better Today drug counseling and had told him he was committed to turning his life around.

“I hope to God he is,” Ackourey said.

Because there had been similar previous offenses, Judge Shurtleff said he was allowed to sentence Warren to twice the authorized standard range, and he noted that in addition to a $2,500 fine, Warren also owed restitution in the amount of $280.

Warren received credit for 324 days already served, and would be reporting to Camp Hill in the near future, Judge Shurtleff said.
